黄金伝説展（国立西洋美術館） The Golden Legend (The National Museum of Western Art)

古代地中海地方の様々な貴重な金細工の品々を紹介する展示会。

現在のブルガリアの黒海沿岸で発見された、紀元前5,000年、今から6,000年前の金製品の副葬品。

300余りもの墓から発見された黄金の重さを合計すると、6kgにも及ぶという。

ギリシャ神話では、イアソンという英雄が、この地で黄金の子羊を手に入れたという話が残っている。

古代エトルリアは、細い黄金細工で知られるが、今回、ヴァチカン美術館の至宝とも言える、多くの金製品も出展されていた。

小さな金の玉を組み合わせた精巧な金細工は、現代では再現できないほど、高度な技術が使われている。

あまりに精巧なため、肉眼ではよくわからないので、拡大鏡で作品を見るようになっている。

当時の人々は、それほど細かい精巧な金細工を、どうして欲しがったのだろうか。
